The Divine Feminine

We live in a patriarchal society where the feminine aspect of the divine is neglected.

When people ask me "Do you believe in God or do you believe in a divine being?" I usually say "Yes", but sometimes I might say "No" because the words 'believe in' are tricky and imply that we cannot know the divine.

If I was to get into a discussion about it, then I would want to say, "Do you believe in rocks?"
We do not believe in them, we see them, touch them, dig them out in our gardens, etc.

Similarly we do not believe in the Goddess (I use this word, just to redress the balance).
We connect with her through the earth, trees, oceans, animals human beings and through ourselves.
For me she is manifest in everything and within us all.

I have chosen this poem called 'Hugging Arms' which celebrates the Goddess and our co-existence with her.

Hugging Arms

My beautiful Divine Mother
This universe is your body
Alive and blushing
With cosmic streams
And rivers of love.

I bow to the rocks
Ancient siblings of boundless love
I bow to the sun and the sailing planets
Who whistle songs of love
To one another
From deep within the inner sphere.

And I bow to every atom
Eternally in love with every other atom
All of them whirling dervishes
Ecstatic in their danceOf joyous coexistence.

My heart melts at the sight
Of this endless love feast
And I deeply regret
That my hugging arms
Are so few and so short.
